TEHRAN -- Iran’s National Library and Archives (INLA) recently purchased the world’s first book printed in Persian using the Persian alphabet.
The name and location of the salesperson was not reported in INLA’s release on Tuesday.Published in 1639 in the Netherlands’ Leiden, the 900-page book contains the original text which is in Latin and was translated into Persian by Molana Qasem Lahuri.
The book contains several sections including the life of Jesus Christ and also dedicates a section to the elements of the Persian language.
The book was translated about 400 years ago to introduce Europeans to the Persian language which was used in India that time.
The complete version of the book is currently preserved in the Iranology collection of the INLA.
